It was Maundy Thursday and the evening service at Litlington was about to start. Only when the vicar arrived the lights in the vestry and chancel were dead, Some sort of electrical fault. The symbolism, especially on Maundy Thursday, struck me as I robed up in semi darkness in the vestry. Only on walking out into the nave did I experience light. There were gathered the Body of Christ, and that is where the lights worked. On my own, I didn't have light. It felt like God reminding us that we need one another to know The Light of the World, perhaps especially in seeking to know the meaning of that precious Thursday meal. Just a fact of life on one sense, yes: but God so often uses those facts to speak to us of deep truths, and is indeed the Light of World.
