| 😎 Seasonable temperatures and dry weather continue Wednesday and most of Thursday for eastern Minnesota. Afternoon highs will be in the mid-80s for southern Minnesota to upper 70s northeast. Thursday's highs will be a few degrees warmer. ⛈️ Widespread thunder chances increase Thursday night into Friday. | 🏛️ Minnesota lawmakers add new fraud defenses, leaving others for future consideration. Minnesota lawmakers held the first hearing since the June 14 shooting of two lawmakers and their spouses. The hearing focused on Medicaid and efforts to stop fraud. 🏫 Trump administration withholds millions in funding from Minnesota schools. The money had been mandated by Congress for spending on the most vulnerable students as well as teacher professional development. 🔍 50th anniversary of Morris Minnesota earthquake. Fifty years after the 1975 Morris earthquake, scientists and those who lived through it are still trying to figure out how Morris ended up as the epicenter of such a rare experience. 🧑⚖️ Minneapolis City Council pulls back on consent decree proposal, vows to keep trying. The Minneapolis City Council backed off a plan to merge parts of a federal police reform agreement into a state settlement but said they still intend to push for making the federal reforms enforceable by law. 🪧 Duluth-area nurses strike, citing stalled contract negotiations. About 300 nurses and other medical staff at six Duluth-area Essentia Health facilities went on strike Tuesday. The workers are negotiating their first union contract and say bargaining is going too slow. 🎸 Twin Cities band Second Hand Dan looks forward to a summer of making music. As the indie folk rock band gears up for a summer of live shows, they continue to celebrate their collaborative, creative process rooted in a unique language and bond between each other. ☕ Café & Bar Lurcat in Minneapolis will close in September. The pending closure comes as the lease for Café & Bar Lurcat is set to expire. The last day of public service will be Sept. 5, after nearly a quarter-century as a local favorite. 🏅 Minnesota sends delegation of students to Braille Challenge for first time. In February, Minnesota held its first regional Braille Challenge where students competed in various literacy tests. It led to four student finalists who went to an international competition in Los Angeles in late June. 🛟 Minnesota organization donates 10,000 life jackets to support child water safety. Nearly 20 years after 6-year-old Abbey Taylor died in a tragic pool accident, her parents' foundation, Abbey’s Hope, marked a milestone Tuesday by giving away its 10,000th life jacket at a kids' safety camp in White Bear Lake. |
