Jobs Letdown Ahead?
Stocks have been riding high on strong corporate earnings and unprecedented levels of central bank stimulus, but the real economic recovery comes down to the jobs market. Yesterday's ADP private sector employment came in well below expectations and led to some widespread selling. Bond prices also ticked up as investors adjusted to a most risk-off position ahead of Friday's July jobs report.
If the ADP report is any indication, we could be headed for a miss on tomorrow's employment report. If it's a particularly stark letdown, there could be some selling to close out the week.
