Last week, I recommended three novels that can be found in paperback at a bookstore or on Kindle at your local library. What’s fun about discovering a twisty novel from four or five years ago is that the author has probably published since then, so you don’t have to wait to read their next book.
This week, I’ve got some brand new thriller and crime novels you’ll want to take to the lake on a vacation or a summer weekend.
S.A. Cosby, who debuted a bestseller last summer with "Blacktop Wasteland," a remarkable book, is back with "Razorblade Tears." The film rights have already been snapped up so if you miss the book, there’s a movie coming. It’s the story of two men, grieving for their murdered sons, who join forces in search of vengeance.
Expect a lot of chatter about Laurie Elizabeth Flynn’s college reunion thriller, “The Girls Are All So Nice Here.” Two close friends with a devastating secret between them show up on campus 10 years later, only to realize someone knows what they did and is determined that they won’t get away with it this time.
Finally, here’s a confession I didn’t expect to make but I’m a big fan of Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club. Witherspoon recently confided on a podcast that she reads a book every two to three days — and when I looked at her list I found she was reading with curiosity and global diversity and a sense of fun. Edwidge Danticat, Nancy Jooyoun Kim and Austin Channing Brown have all been Reese selections. So, I’m going to make Reese’s pick for May a Thread Must-Read. It’s Laura Dave’s “The Last Thing He Told Me.” When Witherspoon says, “Holy Moly, you will not be able to put this book down” I believe it.
