Federal appeals court rules that previously barred refugees, immigrants can continue entering the U.S. |
A panel with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit decided to continue halting enforcement of President Trump’s immigration ban. That means refugees and others from seven Muslim-majority countries who had previously been blocked can continue to enter the United States. The Justice Department can ask the Supreme Court to intervene, but it would take the votes of five justices to overturn the appeals court decision. The Supreme Court has been shorthanded since the death of Justice Antonin Scalia last year, and it is ideologically divided between four more liberal justices and four conservative-leaning ones. |
