Joe Biden has chosen Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, as his transportation secretary, according to multiple reports

Multiple news outlets reported the decision Tuesday. Buttigieg, who competed with Biden for the presidential nomination before dropping out and endorsing him, would be the first openly gay Senate-confirmed Cabinet secretary if approved. Richard Grenell, who is gay, held a Cabinet-level position in the Trump administration, but was never confirmed to his position by the Senate.
