Pence defies Trump, says he won't block Congress from affirming Biden's win: 'Only lawmakers can decide today'

Facing intense pressure from President Donald Trump to try to unilaterally change the electoral college votes, Vice President Mike Pence said Wednesday that only lawmakers can decide today whether to accept the state-certified results. Pence issued the statement shortly before he began presiding over a joint session of Congress in his constitutional role as president of the Senate.
