Senators reach agreement not to hear witnesses in the impeachment trial of former President Trump, undoing earlier vote to call witnesses

The compromise essentially undoes a surprise move by the Senate Saturday morning, when a majority of the chamber voted to call witnesses in the impeachment trial. The deal means the Senate can move forward with closing arguments, which will be followed by a final vote on whether to convict or acquit Trump.
