Trump nominates Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court, hoping to cement a conservative majority in the run-up to Election Day

With his pick of Barrett, an appeals court judge overwhelmingly popular with conservatives, Trump gets a chance to shift national attention away from the coronavirus pandemic, racial justice and a troubled economy just weeks before Election Day. Trump has been trailing Democratic challenger Joe Biden in national polls as Americans start voting early across the country.
