DECEMBER IN THE LIBRARY
With the holidays right around the corner now is the time to start creating your own holiday music playlist! With Freegal, you can download five musical tracks per week using their easy downloadable service that you can access on the Freegal App or onto your computer by going to manchesterpl.freegalmusic.com/home. Their Sony music entertainment catalog offers hundreds of thousands of songs and over 100 genres of music from more than 50 record labels! Search by genre, artist or check out their newly added music. The music goes right onto your computer or onto your iPhone, Android or tablet with a free app. It is available for Manchester residents only. Drop-In Knitting Sessions New Date Drop-in knitting sessions will now be held on Wednesday afternoons from 2:30-3:30 PM. Please join us at the Roundtable and bring your old or new project! We welcome beginners and experienced crafters, all ages. Assistance is sometimes available, many of our knitters have much more experience than we do and are quite helpful! If you have any questions, or would like to participate or assist, please call perennial knitter beginner, Sara Collins, Library Director, 978-526-2011. Come Write In with Crystal Condakes Karlberg Calling all writers and anyone who wants to write. The Manchester Public Library will be hosting a writing session on Monday, December 2nd and Wednesday December 18th from 6 PM – 7:30 PM for anyone who would like a space to work on their writing. Whether you are a beginning writer or you are already working on a project, this will be a great opportunity. In one area of the library, we will offer a writing group format complete with prompts and light critique for anyone who wants it. Other areas of the library will be available for those who just need a time and place to get their ideas down. Directing the workshops will be Manchester resident Crystal Condakes Karlberg. She has been participating and leading writing workshops for 20+ years. Her poetry has recently been published by Oddball Magazine, Mom Egg Review, and Soundings East. She was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2018. Hearthside Book Group The Hearthside Book Group will meet next on Tuesday, December 3rd at 4:00 PM. The group will discuss The Pioneers by David McCullough. New members are always welcome. Winter Music Acapella Performance On Thursday, December 5th at 6 PM the library will welcome local acapella barbershop singers the Northshoremen Quartets to perform winter and holiday music for everyone to enjoy. Working together as the Essex County 4, the performers strive to carry on the rich tradition of barbershop harmonies in order to delight audiences and inspire the spirit of the season. Together they have over 50 years of combined barbershop singing experience, and in 2015 they won the Patriot Division “Senior Quartet Champions” award. December Movie Night On Friday, December 13th at 5:30 PM the library will be showing the movie based off the 2014 Pulitzer prize winning novel that follows the story of a young boy and his life after a terrible tragedy that involves a famous painting that he stole. This movie stars Nicole Kidman, Sarah Paulson and Finn Wolfhard. Bring your own drink, the Library will provide popcorn. This movie is rated R and anyone under 18 must have a parent or guardian fill out a permission slip available at the circulation desk. Nonfiction Book Group The next meeting of the Nonfiction Book Group is Monday, December 16th at 4 PM. The group will discuss Places for the People: How Social Infrastructure Can Help Fight Inequality, Polarization, and the Decline of Civic Life by Eric Klinenberg and The Catalogue of Shipwrecked Books by Edward Wilson-Lee. New members are always welcome. New Library Holiday Hours The Library will be open on Tuesday, December 24th from 10 AM to 1 PM. The Library will be closed on Wednesday, December 25th for the Christmas holiday. The library will reopen on Thursday, December 26th from 1 PM to 8 PM. Mystery Book Group The Mystery Book Group will meet Friday, December 27th at 10:30 AM to discuss The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin. New members are always welcome. New Years Library Holiday Hours The Library will be open on Tuesday, December 31st from 10 AM to 1 PM. The Library will be closed on Wednesday, January 1st for the New Years. The library will reopen on Thursday, January 2nd from 1 PM to 8 PM.
