Note from the Associate Editorial Director

Thoughts about leadership

By Melissa Varnavas

My dream job, that person I always wanted to be when I was little, was either a newspaper reporter or a teacher.

In my current role as the associate editorial director for ACDIS, I’m blessed with being able to work in both these roles. I get to play reporter, to talk to our members, to listen to their stories and retell the tales of their struggles and triumphs, sharing them with the rest of the membership so that we might all learn from their lessons and leverage their wisdom and growth in our own practices.

How to favorite an article on the ACDIS website

Re-finding your favorite article can be a difficult task. It doesn’t have to feel like banging your head against a wall, though. If you’re logged into the ACDIS website, you can actually “favorite” articles and access them all from one spot when you want to return to them.

Help choose the theme for CDI Week 2017

It’s hard to believe, but CDI Week 2017 is less than 100 days away. Every year, facilities large and small celebrate the efforts of their CDI programs for one week in September. This year’s event takes place September 18-22. In the past, CDI departments held department parties, wore matching CDI-themed shirts, handed out CDI info cards, and much more. To help aid in the fun, ACDIS chooses a theme every year around which the activities form. This year, we need your help.

Share your CDI journey with the ACDIS community

The ACDIS community is a close-knit group—sharing stories, offering help and advice. One of the many things the ACDIS team loves doing is disseminating members’ stories to the larger ACDIS membership. Sometimes this takes the form of an interview on a specific topic for the CDI Journal; other times, it takes the form of a “Meet a Member” article.

Local chapter updates: Leadership networking phone call next week

The Chapter Advisory Board invites members of local chapters and networking groups to a telephone conference networking call on Thursday, June 29, at noon, eastern.

Sepsis. Septic shock. SIRS. Septicemia. Whether you’re new to the coding or CDI specialist profession or have been working in the field for decades, you know that accurately capturing the documentation needed for appropriate code assignment of sepsis-related diagnosis can be tricky—or downright difficult—given the wide variety of definitions physicians use and the rules governing code assignment.

Join experts James S. Kennedy, MD, CCS, CDIP, CCDS, and Paul Evans, RHIA, CCDS, CCS, CCS-P, on June 22, 1-3 p.m. Eastern, for a webinar exploring this difficult topic!
