The rate of retreat of Gangotri glacier has slowed down to 11 metres since 2008 from the maximum of 35 metres recorded in 1974, according to experts at the Almora-based GB Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment and Sustainable Development (GBPNIHESD) who conducted a study of the glacier located in Uttarkashi from 2008 till 2016.

US-born panda Bao Bao lands in China
An American-born panda started settling into her new home on Thursday in southwest China. Bao Bao was born at the National Zoo in Washington to panda parents on loan from China. Under an agreement between China and the US, such panda cubs must be returned to China before they are 4 years old.
