Two crore LPG target brings 'Ujjwala' to Odisha cook
At about 7pm on Friday, Swalia Bibi heard a knock at her door. The 31-year-old wife of a scrap collector found a few men standing outside her humble dwelling in the city’s Shikharchandi Basti. She could hardly believe her ears when the men — executives from state-run fuel retailers IndianOil and Hindustan Petroleum — said her household would mark the two crore milestone in Ujjwala, the Narendra Modi government’s scheme for providing free LPG connection to poor families.

One nation, one fuel: India keeps BS-IV date
India kept its date on Saturday for becoming a one-nation-one-fuel market, with the entire country switching to BS-IV grade petrol and diesel. Oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced the arrival of cleaner fuels at a function here, setting the stage for leapfrogging to BS-VI by April 2020.

Govt releases Rs 3,800 crore as drought relief for Tamil Nadu, Karnataka
The Centre released on Saturday over Rs 2,000 crore as assistance to Tamil Nadu to deal with losses due to drought and cyclonic storm “Vardah” last year. It also released Rs 1,782.44 crore to Karnataka for drought relief and advised both states to ensure that all assistance were mandatorily disbursed through the beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
