STOP BY THE MT. ROYAL BRANCH TO VIEW OUR NEW MURAL "GRANDMA'S LAP"

"Grandma's Lap" by Sarah Agaton Howes depicts the bond created when we share stories with one another. You can view this beautiful mural in person whenever our library is open.

NEW CABINETS NOW HOUSE OUR TOY COLLECTION

We are excited about our newly installed toy collection cabinets. Our toy collection has been expanding, and we needed more cabinet space to hold and display our toys. A big thank you to the Duluth Library Foundation for purchasing these cabinets.

Why borrow toys from the Duluth Public Library?

  • Easy on the budget.
  • Good for the environment.
  • Perfect for grandparents and part-time caregivers entertaining kids.

One of the primary ways children learn is through play. The library's toy collection promotes learning, discovery, curiousity, creativity and entertainment.

OUR NEW MURAL WAS UNVEILED ON OCTOBER 19TH

It was a joy to gather for the unveiling of the library's new mural "Grandma's Lap" by Anishinaabe/Ojibwe artist Sarah Agaton Howes.

The library's Diversity in Action group received submissions from several talented and qualified local artists. Sarah Agaton Howes was chosen because her vision resonated with the library's goals for the project. At the library, we want all Duluthians represented in our artwork as well as in our book, movie and music collections.

"Libraries are just this incredible equalizer. They give everybody access to stories, and stories are what really formulate what we think about ourselves, our value system, and who we are."

-Sarah Agaton Howes

Thank you to the Arrowhead Library System, Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund and the Duluth Public Arts Commission for funding this new mural.
