OUR NEW MURAL WAS UNVEILED ON OCTOBER 19TH It was a joy to gather for the unveiling of the library's new mural "Grandma's Lap" by Anishinaabe/Ojibwe artist Sarah Agaton Howes. The library's Diversity in Action group received submissions from several talented and qualified local artists. Sarah Agaton Howes was chosen because her vision resonated with the library's goals for the project. At the library, we want all Duluthians represented in our artwork as well as in our book, movie and music collections. "Libraries are just this incredible equalizer. They give everybody access to stories, and stories are what really formulate what we think about ourselves, our value system, and who we are." -Sarah Agaton Howes Thank you to the Arrowhead Library System, Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund and the Duluth Public Arts Commission for funding this new mural. |
