Click here * Coping with Covid: A view from Johannesburg * Dear Skateistan supporters, We're so excited to announce that all of our Skate Schools around the world have officially reopened: in Afghanistan, Cambodia, and South Africa. As the global pandemic continues to affect children worldwide, our teams have been finding new ways to connect with our students. In this post, we catch up with Enos, an Educator in Skateistan South Africa. Read more about connecting with students at home during Covid in Johannesburg. On October 14th, The Skateroom is organizing a Brussels screening of the Oscar winning short documentary, Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (if you’re a girl) by Carol Dysinger. The short documentary follows the progress of a group of girls at Skateistan in Kabul. Filmed over the course of a year, Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone follows the girls as they progress both in the classroom and the skatepark. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A with members of Skateistan and special guests. In Afghanistan, many families relocate to get to safer parts of the country, such as Mazar-e-Sharif, which has a large Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp on its outskirts. Many children in the camp are out of school and attend our Back-to-School program to give them a second chance at education. During the lockdown, their education was once again disrupted, but Skateistan educators found a way to keep their classes going. The Citizens of Skateistan is our global community of students, staff, skaters and supporters who share the dream of empowering and educating children through skateboarding. By donating $10 or more a month you can become a Citizen and help make it possible for thousands of children to attend our programs worldwide.
