Click here Dear Skateistan supporters, We are delighted to let you know that we are now working in 19 locations around the world, and we reach up to 3,300 students every week in our programs. Our skateboarding and education programs provide children with a relief and a release from the stresses of seeking safety, especially girls, who are statistically more likely to be excluded. It's been a busy few months, read on to learn more about we've been up to. As you know, last summer we had to suspend our programs in Afghanistan and temporarily close our Skate Schools as the government fell. Many of our staff fled the country at that time and became refugees, scattered around the world. For a lot of our staff, they still had the same desire to serve their community, wherever they are. This formed into an idea: we could run our programs within the refugee camps. By doing this, we could continue to keep the vibes of Skateistan Afghanistan flowing and also help some of our staff members start to build new lives in their adopted homes. Over the past few months we have been working with refugee camps and resettlement locations in Albania, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and the USA. Read more about our work with refugees here. Last year we started a trial of an after school program in Atlantis, an underserved community in the Western Cape, South Africa. By partnering with local schools we meet children in spaces that they are already in, providing programming that supplements school curricula. By meeting children where they are, we can provide opportunities to hundreds of more children and we don't have to rely on running programs from a Skateistan Skate School. Read more about our new partnerships with public schools here. There are children all over the world who need safe spaces to skate, dream, and learn. With our focus on girls' inclusion, empowerment and integration between different communities, we are connecting more children with opportunities to make them leaders for a better world. Check out our Locations Map and see how Skateistan is writing a new chapter in locations across the globe. By donating $1 or more a month you become a Citizen of Skateistan and help make it possible for thousands of children to attend our programs worldwide. The Citizens of Skateistan is our global community of students, staff, skaters and supporters who share the dream of empowering and educating children through skateboarding.
