Introducing our Theme for the 2023 Daily Meditations: “The Prophetic Path”We are excited to announce the NEW theme for the 2023 Daily Meditations — “The Prophetic Path.” In a time where religion often fails to meet our great crises and injustices, we believe God is calling us to be prophets of Divine Love. For those of us carrying deep grief, individually and collectively, we need — the world needs — an outpouring of lament and love to find hope and healing. In January, the Daily Meditations will begin an exploration of grief, hope, compassion, and solidarity with the suffering of the world. “The prophet’s path is about letting go of illusion and toppling false gods,” writes Fr. Richard Rohr. “Prophets are disrupters of the social consensus. They keep humanity free for God and God free for humanity.” Visions of a Nonviolent World in the Newest Issue of ONEINGWhile it’s not easy, seismic social change for the better is possible, and we have more power to foster it than we often think. —Ken Butigan, ONEING: Nonviolence What would it take to build a society based on loving action instead of violence and control? The latest issue of ONEING: Nonviolence challenges readers to see nonviolence not only as an idealistic alternative for social change, but a personal conviction applicable to every human interaction. Journey deeper into what it means to embody loving action in every aspect of our lives in this powerful new issue of ONEING. Established in 2013, ONEING is the biannual journal of the Center for Action and Contemplation. Renowned for its diverse and deep exploration of mysticism and culture, ONEING is grounded in Richard Rohr’s teachings and wisdom lineage. Each issue features a themed collection of thoughtfully curated essays and critical perspectives from spiritual teachers, activists, modern mystics, and prophets of all religions. Deepen Your Awareness of the “Inner Witness” in Interior Castle with James Finley and Mirabai Starr“To know the self is to know God.” —Teresa of Ávila Interior Castle is an 8-week online course journeying through the seven mansions of St. Teresa of Ávila’s The Interior Castle with James Finley and Mirabai Starr as guides, exploring her perspective on progressively deepening states of consciousness as a pathway to union with God. Along the way, practices of prayer, reflection, humility, and self-knowledge turn spiritual insights into experiential and embodied wisdom. Based on James Finley’s many years of reading, meditating, and leading retreats on this 16th-century mystic, this course also draws from Mirabai Starr’s work translating the original Spanish text to reveal the essence of Teresa and her message. Interior Castle is intended for students already experienced with the spiritual path. This course is presented largely in James Finley’s poetic, creative, non-linear style and is, therefore, best suited to those who have experience learning in a heart-centered way that transcends and includes the intellect. Learning Objectives Experience The Interior Castle by Teresa of Ávila’s as an embodied pathway of union with God. Deepen awareness of the “inner witness” through life experiences and contemplative practice. Be inspired to see God in all things, to find hope and love even amidst suffering. Connect and learn with other spiritual seekers.Register for Interior Castle Let Go of Egoic Attachments and Step Into Freedom and Wholeness with Richard Rohr and Breathing Under Water“As humans, we are all addicted to our way of thinking. A regular practice of contemplative prayer is the oil that greases the wheels of transformation.” —Richard Rohr Breathing Under Water is a 15-week online course studying the Twelve Steps through the themes and wisdom of Richard Rohr’s book, Breathing Under Water. It will explore the parallels between what Jesus taught and the freedom that can be found in twelve-step programs. The invitation is to let go of egoic attachments and step into freedom and wholeness. Richard Rohr often says, “We do not think ourselves into new ways of being; we live ourselves into new ways of thinking.” Students will learn how contemplative practice and spiritual wisdom can be joined with the wisdom of the Twelve Steps to transform our habitual patterns of stinking thinking. Whether you are new to the Twelve Steps or have been doing this work for years, we hope Breathing Under Water moves you to surrender more deeply to your Higher Power and to experience the peace (not of mind, but of being) that comes with such freedom. Membership in a twelve-step program is not required. Anyone can and will gain insight from this course. Learning Objectives Integrate the Twelve Steps into daily life through reading, reflection, and engagement with Fr. Richard's book, Breathing Under Water: Spirituality and the Twelve Steps. Deepen personal awareness of “stinking thinking” as a universal addiction and explore its consequences (e.g., codependency and dualistic thinking). Develop a contemplative practice to grow alternative consciousness, which provides the only freedom from the dominant ego self and from cultural falsities. Connect and learn with other spiritual seekers.Register Now for Breathing Under Water A Message of Gratitude: Thank you for your generosity and partnership! We want to thank all of you who have generously contributed to the CAC in 2022 and made the work of this community possible!
