| | Politics – you have to laugh or else you cry. Seeing as most of us frequently find ourselves closer to the latter these days it’s hard not to feel some kind of joy when politicians make a fool of themselves. This week it was the turn of US senators and their questioning of Google CEO Sundar Pichai. Now, I know technology can be hard to get your head round sometimes – you just have to read some of the stuff I’ve written to realize that. However, you would hope that a group of people who had been tasked with asking questions in order to get to the bottom of what is quite a serious issue, would have done some research first. Apparently not. So, here are a few selected highlights from the hearing: Ted Pope, Republican Senator for Texas not understanding that the answer to ‘Is Google tracking me?’ is not a straightforward yes or no, it actually depends on what settings he’s opted in to (or not opted out of if we recall the story from August).
