| | After failing to attend a hearing at the US senate on data security during the election, Google finally sent a representative to Capitol Hill to answer questions. However, despite the hearing supposedly being about protecting data belonging to US citizens, Google’s Chief Privacy Officer, Keith Enright, instead found himself deflecting multiple questions about the tech giant’s plan to launch a censored search app in China. Details of the project, dubbed ‘butterfly’, had leaked last month, leading to over 1,400 employees signing a letter demanding more transparency and accountability about the project’s potential impact on human rights.
