Start by finding a couple of physician champions and APPs who are regarded highly amongst their peer group and appear to be leaders, says Carol S. Cairns, CPMSM, CPCS. Begin to have this discussion with them—would they be interested in having such a structure? You might reach out to other organizations that have such a structure and look at what policies and procedures they have, if they have built it into their bylaws, and so on.

A family medicine physician has lost his license for spreading misinformation related to COVID-19. Arthur LaTulippe, MD, who practiced in Dallas, Oregon, refused to wear a mask when seeing patients and also told his patients that wearing a mask was dangerous to their health.

Gains in compensation are never a bad thing. And performance-based metrics, while challenging, can be rewarding—a pat on the back for a job well done. But here’s the not-so-great news when it comes to MSP raises: According to the respondents of Credentialing Resource Center’s 2020 MSP Salary Survey Report only 57.3% of respondents reported receiving an increase in the past year. That’s a big drop from recent years’ survey results. Three-quarters of 2018 respondents in the same report (76.6%) saw a salary increase within the past year, compared to 74.7% in 2017 and 72.1% in 2016.

There are many positives to the judicious use of social media in medicine, and the future will open many more possibilities. The risks, however, will not diminish in time; rather, the potholes will become bigger. Everyone, medical professional or not, would benefit from pausing before posting on social media.
