NEWSFLASH: TEAM SUNWEB ADD GERMAN TALENTS NIKLAS MÄRKL AND LEON HEINSCHKE TO DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
Team Sunweb are delighted to announce the signings of Niklas Märkl (GER) and Leon Heinschke (GER) to their Development Program from 2018 until the end of 2019.

The addition of the young and talented German duo boosts the strength of Team Sunweb's Development Program, whilst expanding its German core further. Heinschke, 17 years old, is recognised as a talented time trialist and recently impressed by finishing 2nd in the GC at the Giro del Luigiana, a stage win at the GP General Patton, the German junior national time trial championships alongside some strong results in both mountains and general classification competitions across 2017. 18 year old Märkl is a fast all-rounder in his own right; placing third at the European junior road championships, second at the junior world championships, a stage win and the points classification overall at the junior Course de la Paix as well as a bundle of top five placings in the 2017 junior road season.

Speaking of joining the team Heinschke said: "I am really looking forward to taking the next step and racing at U23 level with Team Sunweb. After a good year with some good results I feel like Team Sunweb is the perfect environment for me to progress and continue this momentum. I come from the same team as Nikias [Arndt], Leon [Rohde] and Max [Kanter] so already have experience riding with these guys and feel like I will fit in perfectly with the team."

Märkl said: “It’s a great opportunity to be able to take the next big step in my career and I'm proud to become a part of Team Sunweb. I joined the training camp earlier this year and I immediately knew that it was the right team for me to take the next step with my development. I like the professionalism and the connection to the WorldTour team as a development structure. It's great that this is a potential way to the WorldTour in the future. First my goal is to get used to the level of racing at U23 and the duration of the races, which is a lot more than the junior races, and I hope to learn a lot from the older riders.”
