After a day of aggressive, tactical riding, Team Sunweb's Coryn Rivera took the win at stage three of the women's Amgen Tour of California. With Coryn racing on home soil hungry for another UCI Women's WorldTour win, Team Sunweb set out to make the day as tough as possible before the expected fast finish in Sacramento. Setting up stations at the head of the peloton, the team took advantage of the crosswinds and put in a huge effort to cause splits to the bunch. After various splits and regrouping, the race came back together for a bunch sprint in Sacramento. Team Sunweb were in prime position forming their sprint train to lead out Coryn through to the finish. Coryn was able to finish off the teams hard work leading the charge with her explosive sprint, crossing the line in first place to take her third UCI WorldTour victory of the season. Following her win Coryn said: "Today was all on the girls. It's a hard sport and we're here with the worlds best, I couldn't have done it without them. We tried a few times to break up the field and to drop some other riders. Our move worked but things came back together so next it was time for us to focus on the lead out train. We had planned the sprint in detail and the girls executed the plan perfectly. One of my first wins was in Sacramento when I was 18, so it's great to be back on the top step here years later." |
