NEWSFLASH: TWO WINS IN ONE DAY FOR TEAM SUNWEB

It's been a successful day at the office for Team Sunweb with Nikias Arndt taking the win at the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race and Joris Nieuwenhuis winning the U23 cyclo-cross world championships.

After a 174km course across Victoria, Nikias took the first victory of the team's road season at Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race. The race both started and finished in Geelong and with a challenging route, riders could expect almost every race condition. The circuit through Geelong was a similar course to that of the UCI Road World Championships held there in 2010.

Nikias said: "Today the team did a truly awesome job, Wilco and I were protected really well up until the final. We had a good plan to cover different scenarios on the difficult final lap. I had to fight really hard to survive the final climbs and the guys made sure I was set up for the sprint. I am really happy to finish off the trip to Australia like this and pleased that I could reward the team with a win after all of their hard work over the past three weeks."

After securing his win at the U23 UCI CX world cup last weekend, Joris took Team Sunweb's first ever world title at the U23 CX world championships today. Joris, pre-race favourite, was able to perfectly navigate around the course, which featured steep drops, climbs and multiple off-camber sections. Early on in the race, Nieuwenhuis attacked and gained a substantial lead over the field. He maintained his advantage and went on to take the win and Team Sunweb's first ever world title.

After his win, Joris said: "I knew I was ready and I felt good coming into the race, although you never know how the legs feel until it actually starts. I just rode my own race and went as fast as I could, which went really well. I'm extremely happy to take the world title and pleased to give Team Sunweb their first ever rainbow jersey."
