OOSTENDE (Belgium)

An Ocean Initiative on Oostende beach with the European Comission

Initiative océane Oostende

Sunday May the 14th, Surfrider co-organized with the European Commission DG Mare, a huge marine litter cleanup on Oostende beach, in Belgium. This Ocean Initiative mobilized more than 200 people. A large scale event for the ocean protection, waste and marine pollution reduction. At the end of the day, participants and organizers gathered together to form OCEAN letters.

TOULOUSE (France)

A paddle Ocean   Initiative on the Canal du Midi

Paddle

Les Voies Navigables de France organization (Waterways management in France) organized on May the14th, a race for trees replantation on the Canal du Midi. On this occasion, Surfrider Haute Garonne’s Chapter suggested to collect litter on Canal du Midi on standup paddles. An Ocean Initiative stand was also here to educate runners and passer-by about aquatic litter problematic and its impact.

 NARBONNE (France)

Ocean Campus in class with Aude's chapter

 

Classe

Aude’s Chapter intended to organize an Ocean Initiative with a middle school class from Narbonne. That was without counting on bad weather conditions which prevented them from doing so. Instead, they found a good alternative by teaching about it using the Ocean Campus tools. It was finally a great awareness day about marine pollution, despite the rain. Students followed our online courses thanks to the videos and got to test their knowledge with our quiz.
