Policy statement: EU action towards a sustainable and fair situation of artists and cultural professionals

We warmly welcome the CULT Committee’s “Report on the situation of artists and the cultural recovery in the EU” voted on by the European Parliament on the 20th of October. The Report sets a long-awaited and comprehensive vision on addressing a wide range of the most persistent matters linked to the situation of artists and cultural professionals.

Co-drafted with EAEA - European Arts and Entertainment Alliance and endorsed by Circostrada, EDN - European Dancehouse Network, EFA - the European Festivals Association, TEH - Trans Europe Halles and EAIPA – the European Association of Independent Performing Arts, our policy statement highlights some further areas for action. IETM Girona 2021: Tomorrow is here

Tomorrow is here is the theme of our upcoming IETM Satellite Girona, happening next month, from 25-27 November 2021 in Girona (Catalonia, Spain) and online. We will collectively reflect on how we can build on what we have learned during the pandemic and think of new ways to reposition the arts as a relevant agent for social change.

During the Satellite, participants will among other activities reflect in breakout groups on three thematic threads: New funding schemes and cultural policies, Alternative models for the international and Opportunities for artistic innovation. And what would be an IETM event without networking sessions, inspiring artistic walks through the city and a must-see artistic programme?

Online programme
 
The Satellite Girona was designed so as to allow online participants from all timezones to take part in some sessions. On the agenda: Livestreams of the Opening Keynote Tomorrow is here and project presentations, networking sessions with the East and West of the globe as well as breakout discussions to think about the actions, ideas and changes needed for “tomorrow”.

IETM Lyon 2021: Looking back

We are just back from our IETM Plenary Meeting Lyon 2021. It was a real pleasure to see our members again and to meet new participants, and we hope that everyone headed back home with a head full of thoughts, inspiration and beautfiul memories. Thank you again to all the members and participants who joined us both on site and online, as well as to the local organisers, the partners, the funders and the venues for making #IETMLyon possible!

PROJECTS
Perform Europe: Proposals under review!

After a month packed with online match-making events, workshops and pitches, the call for step 2 of Perform Europe closed on 4 October. A total of 150 proposals were submitted by the formed Perform Europe partnerships. The 508 producers and presenters from step 1 were asked to co-create partnerships among each other and submit their innovative Perform Europe touring and distribution proposals. The 11 Jury members are now reviewing the proposals Stay tuned – results coming soon!

#MeToo in Culture: SHIFT Key Findings

IETM is the lead partner of the strand on Gender & Power Relations of the SHIFT – Shared Initiatives for Training project. The aim of our SHIFT Gender & Power Relations work is to research cases of sexual harassment and power abuse that have been revealed and discussed in the European arts field in recent years, with a focus on the developments since the #MeToo period. While we wait to publish our final report in November, you can read or listen to our SHIFT Key Findings:

Happy 40th Anniversary: Greetings from former IETM Secretary Generals
On Saturday 23 October at IETM Lyon 2021, we celebrated the 40th Anniversary of IETM. For this occasion, former IETM Secretary Generals Hilde Teuchies (1989-1994), Mary Ann De Vlieg (1994-2013) and Nan Van Houte (2013-2019) took us back down memory lane and sent their best wishes to our network.
