PB4L  Mufti Day - Congratulations Piwakawaka Tribe

A big congratulations to Piwakawaka tribe for collecting the most PB4L tokens at the last count (runners up were Mohua and Kakariki).  As a prize, all students who are in Piwakawaka tribe only are allowed to wear mufti to school this Friday, 5th April.

The mufti day is free and Piwakawaka students can wear their tribe colour or any school-appropriate clothing.  No face paint please.
CURRICULUM COMMENT

What's On?

I hope you all had an amazing Easter and managed to enjoy the lovely weather and be with family.  I know that many of you attended the Air Show and Wānaka was a busy place to be, as was Cromwell/Bannockburn I have to say.  There were people everywhere.  We have the rest of this short week and then 5 days next week and it is the school holidays.  Where have the last 11 weeks gone?  We have had busy, happy engaged learners and a real synergy about the school campus which is great to feel and see.

Today we had 12 of our Year 6 students attend the Top Bike competition in Alexandra; this is always a much enjoyed event.  Our Year 5 and 6s are continuing their WPS EPro8 competition to find teams to go through to the Central Otago EPro8 Challenge we are hosting next term.

Harold and Roshelle have done an amazing job working with our tamariki on healthy eating topics and we will sadly farewell them and the mobile classroom this Friday, 5th April.  Also on Friday 5th we have the dress up day for the winning tribe for this term, Piwakawaka.

Next week we have the Fun Run on Thursday 11th 10am - 1pm.  Students have been sent home with a sponsorship form today - please check their bags.  We are raising funds for our Garden to Table, Enviro and Maker Spaces programmes and equipment, whilst having a bit of fun at the same time.  Thanks Anna for organising this event.

Pod 4 have their assembly on Thursday 11th April at 2.15pm. Please note the change of day.

School closes at 3pm as usual on the last day of term, Friday 12th April.

School Photos

School Photos are on the first day back in Term 2, Monday 29th April.  Our usual photo day conflicted with school camps so we had to change it and this was the only day we could arrange for this year.  The children in the STAR programme will have their photos taken first thing in the morning so please send them to school in their uniforms and they can head off to One Day School after their class and individual photos.

EPro8 Challenge

The EPro8 Challenge for Central Otago will take place in our school hall on Tuesday 30th April through to the evening of Thursday 2nd May.

Property Updates

Fencing: This project is now all go as we have at last had Ministry funding released for this project.  The fencer will start in the last week of the holidays (22nd April) and it will probably take most of the term for the fencing to be built.  We will be glad to see the back of the temporary fencing put in whilst the bike park was constructed.  We are still awaiting the final tidy up of the path, hopefully this will be sorted before we return to school in term 2.

Maker Spaces: These are currently being built off site and will be relocated into their position.  We look forward to having these and being able to outfit them at last.

Pod 8 Repaint: This has been completed and different groups are now using this space for special programmes.

PB4L SCHOOL-WIDE GOAL

Positive Behaviour For Learning - PB4L

PB4L School-Wide looks at behaviour and learning from a whole-of-school as well as an individual child perspective.  The framework is based on international evidence and is helping New Zealand schools build a culture where positive behaviour and learning is a way of life.

Each fortnight we focus on a school wide goal to encourage positive behaviours.  The current goal is:  'We leave and enter areas in a respectful way'.

BookHub is an relatively new NZ based website where you can search for books you want to buy online from NZ based booksellers rather than from overseas sites.
