Student Teachers At the moment we have 2 student teachers from Canterbury University posted at school. Emma Rankin is working with Danielle Meyer-Budge and her class in Room 15, and Alison Doran is in Room 28 with Charlotte Lawrie. They will have a couple of postings with us so we welcome them to our WPS whānau. Covid Update Monday and Tuesday - 6 children isolating due to household contacts, 2 who were already in isolation tested positive for Covid over the weekend and we had 7 children test positive on Monday (2 in Room 20, 3 in Room 18, 1 in Room 15 and 1 in Room 29). This week Jason and Kelly are working from home as household contacts and Clair has tested positive. I am still in Palmerston North working from afar but as usual the wonderful staff, 'at the chalkboard' so to speak, are making sure things are running smoothly and everyone is being well looked after and kept busy with their learning and school life. Teacher Only Day This is an early heads up that we only have 1 teacher only day happening during the remainder of this school year. We did try to get them all in before the children returned to school in February but our expert in the teaching of writing wasn't available until term 4 as he is always pretty well booked up. We have a Teacher Only Day with him on Friday 11th November, which is the 4th week of Term 4. We have booked in other sessions in 2023. Keeping Updated in 'Back to Basics' - Parent Sessions We continually update our teachers in the basic literacies of maths, reading, writing and oral language as they are the cornerstones of successful learning. Next term we intend to offer you, our parents, information meetings on the maths and literacy work we have been working on for professional learning and implementing in our classrooms. So watch out for these in this (check out BSLA sessions advertised below) and upcoming newsletters. Happy Holidays Have a great Easter. School finishes at 3pm on Thursday for the Easter and school holiday break and returns Monday 2nd May for term 2. Keep safe and healthy everyone. |

A message from the PTA Committee The WPS PTA would like to thank all of the parents and families who got involved and attended the Parenting Place presentation last month presented by Pio Terei and Sheridan Eketone. We would like to ask those that attended if you have time to please email the PTA committee with any feedback you have on the presentation. Our aim is to have one of these Zoom sessions for parents each term with different presenters if the uptake is positive enough, so we would greatly appreciate any feedback you have. Please contact Adele at pta@wanaka.school.nz. Thank you to the wonderful volunteers who pulled off yet another great Easter Hot X Bun morning - I know this is something the kids all look forward to and the PTA will continue to arrange throughout the years. Another thank you to all of the families again for your great response to the Kai Pai orders. Orders are ready for pick up, please come to the school office. The PTA will be meeting via zoom tomorrow evening at 7pm so we invite you to please come and join from the comfort of your home. A reminder there is no obligation to join the committee but if you would like to be involved in any way or just find out what we have planned for 2022 please feel free to use the link below and join in. We will also be providing a regular update in the newsletter once a month to keep you all up to date with fundraising events and volunteer opportunities. https://us04web.zoom.us/j/71413925257?pwd=vqyJBuo9-YUsSDKJDCwUrKwukpJ7hP.1 We would like to do a 'Welcome back to school coffee and cake' morning on the second week of Term 2 for existing and new families/parents to attend. This is a great opportunity to meet other families in the area or catch up with some familiar faces. A confirmed date for this will be in the first newsletter back after term. |
