This Week in brief The leadership team have started the P.A.T. (Progressive Achievement Tests) testing this week with Years 3-6. This will continue next week. This gives us normed data about where our students' achievement is, in comparison to the rest of NZ. This helps triangulate all the data we get from other class and school assessments to not only track how individual students are performing, but also to look at our school wide performance in the foundation literacies. Classes are working on their Show Art, which we do every year, for a display at the Wānaka A&P Show next Friday, 10th March. Pod 8 has been swimming this week and it's Pod 7 next week and Pod 3 the week after. Please remind children to bring their togs to school - children in Year 5 and 6 should be self-managing this, not have parents running togs in when they get to school and remember they didn't pick up their swim gear. Year 3 and 4 are practising their scootering skills this week and on Friday we have El Gregoe, the magician, comedian and teacher of values perform for us - his last performance after 25 years. Also on Friday at 2.15pm we have our first assembly since the end of 2020. Pod 5 are sharing their learning for the year so far and all parents are welcome. Please be seated by 2.10pm sharp and if you bring a preschooler please keep them quiet and with you at all times. Upper Clutha Primary Schools - Teacher Only Day - Monday 6th March All our primary schools are closed on Monday 6th March to allow all teachers to attend a Curriculum Refresh day in mathematics. Junior Run, Jump and Throw day Next Tuesday 7th March is our Run, Jump and Throw activity day for Year 0-3 children. We invite all parents along to share this day with us. Bring a picnic lunch and a rug and let's make a picnic day of it. The PTA are providing a sausage sizzle ($2), drinks ($2) and ice blocks ($1) for sale on the day. No preorders required. We also hope to have a coffee cart here for that coffee fix for adults. Please ensure your child has their SUNSAFE SCHOOL HAT with them and we would love to see our parents modelling good sun safe practice by also wearing a hat, especially if it's 26 degrees like it has been this week. The Year 4-6 Wānaka Primary School Athletics day is Tuesday 14th March so book that one in too. We hope this is also a nice day for a picnic and a sausage sizzle. PTA raffle HELP! We need your support. We have only had a few items donated for our raffle which is our main term 1 fundraiser. We are urgently seeking donations of food, treats, snacks, vouchers, groceries, health and beauty products, pamper products, small toys, games in fact anything that you yourself would like to win in a raffle. We need these in no later than Friday this week so the PTA can put them into attractive hampers ready to head off to the Wanaka A&P Show. So far we have had offers from 4 stall holders, to sell our raffle tickets but it would be great to have more. Funds raised by the PTA are going into our Playscape areas all over the school to provide quiet areas, to carry out some more plantings, seating, tiling, storage and of course to install a few more exciting pieces of play equipment as funding allows. We also have a bit of a Pod competition going to generate some more interest in donating to our raffle...it could be a bag of crisps for one child and bath bomb from another. The winning pod, the one who collects the most items for the hampers, on Friday, wins an extended lunchtime. Parent Voice Meetings It was great to see a good turn out to our parent voice meetings yesterday. Remember if you haven't booked, bookings are still open. If you can't do this week, and you want to catch up with a teacher, please email them directly to set up a meeting time. At all times of the year please don't hesitate to email teachers about any queries or to make a time to come in and talk to them about your child. Communication between home and school is crucial to a child's successful learning and life at school. |
