Term 3 Enrolments This year Wānaka Primary School is not taking enrolments for children who intend to engage in any snowsport programmes during the school week. Families will need to make their own arrangements for their children's schooling. The correspondence school, Te Kura, is able to provide online learning whilst students are residing in Wānaka. You can also approach your current school and seek online learning from them for term 3. Enrolling at Wānaka Primary School is not an option for children who are in snowsports programmes during the school week, as this does not constitute regular attendance. |

Update Wow, it is week 8 and only 2 and a half weeks remain of term 1. It is so great to have had a 'normal' start to the year. For our Year 1, 2 and 3 and some Year 4 students this is the first uninterrupted start to school they have had. As usual it has been another busy, but happy, settled and productive term 1. You will see that the irrigation upgrade and the landscaping improvements have started around the administration block. Pod 1, 2 and 6 will be the next areas to be worked on. Athletics Champs The Upper Clutha Athletics will take place tomorrow, Wednesday 22nd, after it was postponed today because of the weather. Good luck to everyone participating. We have a team of 60 taking part and 4 teachers helping to organise the day for our athletes. The Central Otago champs in Alexandra are being held on Wednesday 29th March. Teachers Strike Day Thanks for your support and patience with the strike day last week. Senior Athletics Day in the words of Room 25 A compilation of sentences from Room 25's writing books: I was walking to school and when I arrived at school I remembered it was athletics day. On the 14 of March 2023 it was athletics day everyone was really nervous. We sat down on the damp grass with the sun shining on us. At that point I remembered I was in competitive; my heart started racing so I took a few deep breaths and relaxed. As the bell rang I slowly walked to class trying not to waste my energy. Year five girls were up first on the vortex. Then we had long jump, there was a short line I leapt forward and I landed perfectly! On your marks, get set, go, the start gun goes bang off we go. At the end I shook hands with my friend. “Good race”, I say. My heart was pounding, I was super nervous. When the gun went off I raced off and felt excitement through my body. I crossed the finish line in 1st place to hear Jason say, “We just have to check the photos. It was close.” I'm going to Upper Clutha. YES! I liked the sprints the most because I like the wind in my face. When I moved up to the start line I heard Moira loading the start gun. On your marks, get set, go! Off we go! I take the lead jumping over the hurdles and I feel the wind going past me. I cross the finish line. I came first yay! I went down to the BBQ and got a drink and an ice block. The ice blocks were so refreshing and cold. I opened the fizzy drink can and took a sip. When it was lunch time I had the best sausage ever. It was time for the sprint finals. They zoomed past us and then it was home time. There was good sportsmanship from everyone. Congratulations to all the athletes who competed on athletics day and thanks to the teachers and parents for your awesome help. It was Tuesday the 14th of March, early in the morning. The grass was slippery on its surface. We were all lined up in our rows jiggling with excitement. The gun sounded and we all raced off down the track. Competition in the air. I lined up the shot put under my chin focused on my target and pushed. I could feel the dry grass under my bare feet. I listened for my name, then I heard it. I sprinted toward the long jump pit. My hands were sticky from the ice block dripping down my hand. I had high jump next and my feelings were all mixed like a witch's brew. When my turn came around I breathed deeply not wanting to get out on my first attempt. (Nina Fahy, Room 25) |
