CURRICULUM COMMENT

It is promising to be a busy week!

We are in for a busy time this week.  Yesterday our Seasons for Growth sessions started for a junior and senior group.  Our junior school students are learning to be Firewise this week whilst our senior Kapa haka group are getting ready for their marae visit and the Year 5 & 6's Rippa Rugby competition is coming up.  Our PALs (Playground Activity Leaders) are having a training session on Wednesday.  Our chess players are in practice for a regional tournament next week and in between all of that there is the usual learning in the essential learning areas.

Family Maths Evening for Parents

Thursday 26th May - Don't miss this valuable opportunity

Last year we focused on ensuring a balanced maths programme offered students effective learning opportunities in the different strands of maths (such as geometry, number, statistics, algebra, measurement, probability etc. and the basics, such as tables, number knowledge and strategy...an emphasis on back to basics).  This year we are keeping this balance at the core but moving into investigative maths thinking.  We have asked Rob Profitt White, who has been working with our staff and the teachers in all of our UC primary schools, to share what we are doing in class and teach you the parents about maths in a Family Maths evening.  You will get into some activities and have a package of resources and ideas to take home and work on with your children.  Some student helpers will be invited to teach you games and share resources with you.  Mark this in your diary now.  It is a must come to parent meeting.  There is a charge of $5 per head as this will offset the cost of Rob's expertise and resources that you will take home.

6:00pm to 7:30pm in our school hall - See you there!

PTA NOTICES

PTA Welcome to Term 2

The PTA Committee would like to welcome all existing and new families to pop into the hall on Friday morning the 13th May between 8.30-10.00am. This will be an opportunity to meet other parents of the school and introduce yourself if you are new to the area. Please come along and have a hot drink and some nibbles and enjoy getting back to a little bit of normality after a turbulent couple of years. The PTA will be selling the wonderful 'Bite' Cookbook and if there is any interest to become involved in the PTA we will have further information on hand.

We look forward to seeing you all and meeting some new faces.

WPS PTA Chair
