Paid Union Meeting for Primary Teachers (PUM) this Wednesday 1-3pm This is to confirm that there will be a Paid Union meeting for teachers 1-3 pm TOMORROW (Wednesday 31st) for teachers to consider their latest offer, which they will not get to read, until later this afternoon.
School remains open for the afternoon and along with me, there will be some teachers and TAs, who will supervise children. If you are intending to pick up your children instead of leaving them at school to be supervised on Wednesday afternoon, please do this before our lunch break between 12.30 and 1.00pm and you will need to sign them out. It may be difficult to find them after 1.00pm, as they may be out and about in the playground enjoying their lunchtime play, or conversely in a pod they are not usually in, if it is a wet day.
There will be no band or music with Pete and Helen on Wednesday afternoon and also no Te Ara Hono.
Buses will run as usual. The office staff are here too, so just contact the office for any queries. Central Otago Rippa Rugby COPSSA Finals on Thursday We have one team participating in the finals of the COPSSA Rippa Rugby tournament on Thursday in Queenstown. Good luck to you all. Play with the same heart and fun you did whilst competing last week. We were so proud of all our teams who have got right into their Rippa this year. This is our rep team competing and we look forward to hearing what great games they played and how wonderfully they represented us all at Wānaka Primary. Carpark by Dental Clinic There have been a number of parents report issues at the carpark off Totara Tce (Koru Way entrance) near the dental clinic. It appears that when there is not a staff member there supervising traffic, pandemonium results. We withdrew our parking warden as it was costing the school $10,000 a year out of our precious and limited operations grant. Jason Cowan is now our main man down there, however, when he is not there - 'when the cat's away the mice will play'.
The rules to keep everyone safe are quite simple: - Do not walk behind parked cars, especially when your children are with you. Use the pathways and crossings as marked in the photo below. Too many people are walking on the road way, walking behind cars and then going through traffic to get across, instead of crossing at the marked crossing area and using the path between the 2 sets of angle parking sections.
Please only use the crossings and walkways - PLEASE STOP for buses. The sign says give way to buses, not race them to see who can get round first. They work to a schedule and have the right of way. There is a blooming big sign telling you to Give Way. So please slow down and actually stop when you see a bus coming around.
- DO NOT USE YOUR MOBILE PHONES whilst driving or walking in this area. Too many parents are seen using their phones and this makes you a danger whether behind a wheel or walking.
- Slow down, have patience and treat every pedestrian or car as if they have 'your child' on board.
- Wet and inclement days usually mean lots of pickups happen by car and we know from experience drivers become less patient and careful. So be extra, extra wary and watchful for our wee school, and preschool age cherubs who all want to get home safe.
Drivers are the main hazard in all of our Pick Up Drop off areas. PLEASE KEEP OUR KIDS SAFE! PARENTS ENSURE YOUR CHILDREN ARE STRAPPED SECURELY INTO SAFE, AGE APPROPRIATE CAR SEATING. Assembly on Friday is Pod 2 Our 5 year olds are gearing up this week to share what they have been doing in their learning and life at school. Please be seated by 2.15pm and remember NOT to park in any of our Pick up or Drop off areas, (especially the one on Ironside Drive), only in the car parks or off campus. PTA Quiz 4th August Come on everyone. Get a team of 6 together and come along and enjoy our PTA Quiz night. Not only will this be fun, but this is our biggest fundraiser for term 2.
We will have a bar, ongoing nibbles and kiwiana type food, great quiz masters and questions, spot prizes and raffles.
Get your tickets asap - they will be on sale up until the holidays so get in quick for a great night out and you will be supporting the school, and our landscaping and Garden to Table projects.
Our target is at least 16 tables or 100 quizzers, so help us to get there. See the flyer included in this newsletter. King's Birthday - School Closed MONDAY 5TH JUNE SCHOOL IS CLOSED AS IT IS KING'S BIRTHDAY WEEKEND HOLIDAY. |

Naming Competition for New Sport and Community Centre Some of our classes are taking part in this initiative to help name the new sport and community facility currently under construction (at the old Mitre10 building).
The centre currently only has a working title - ‘Wānaka Youth and Community Centre’ but is wanting to bring in a more personal and community approach by accepting naming suggestions from kids that will be the main users of the centre. Classes will be holding a brainstorming session to workshop some names and then submit their name for the centre to a committee at the QLDC who will select a winner. The winning class will receive the following: - A special activity at the opening of the centre (TBD)
- Each class member will receive a free swim pass to Wānaka Recreation Centre
- The chance to do a special, exclusive PE class at the centre (dodgeball, basketball, netball etc).
