If you would like to join us, you are most welcome to come along this Wednesday between 1 and 3 pm.  If you would like your child to take part, please email their classroom teacher giving permission for them to help.  Send them along with a change of old clothing and footwear (children love getting messy).

CURRICULUM COMMENT

Week 7

I trust you all had a relaxing King's Birthday weekend. I can't believe we are in week 7 already.  Flying back from visiting my granddaughters in Palmerston North provided a picturesque panoramic view of the snow capped ranges.  The ski season is not far away by the looks of it.

Mid Year Reporting to Parents

Remember the Parent Deep Dive, where you come in and spend an hour or so with your child as they show you and tell you all about their learning, their successes, their challenges and show you the results of their work, in effect reporting to you on their learning.  This is this Thursday 22nd June 11-12.30, 1.30-3pm and 4-5pm.  We have 3 parts to our reporting system - students reporting to parents, written reports and parent teacher interviews. Of these 3 the students reporting to parents is the most important part of the process.

As a result of feedback from previous years we are not only sending written reports home through the portal, but we will also email a copy to every parent (as some have difficulty with the portal), and on request we will also provide a printed hard copy (as some families do not have a printer at home).  After the 23rd June (the date the reports are sent home) Jason is the person to get in touch with if you have any issues or to request a printed copy.

Bookings are now open (see under Important Notices) for Parent Conference (being held on 28th and 29th June) with teachers.  We have set up this process again this year at the request of parents who preferred a structured format, rather than contacting teachers themselves. Please note that all 3 of these reporting options are available, but you may not feel you need to participate in all 3, especially if you are a parent who pops into class often.

Our Teaching Staff are busy this Week

Our teaching of writing expert extraordinaire, Murray Gadd, is in school this week working with our teachers and our kids.  He will lead a staff workshop today digging deeper into getting the most out of children's writing through finely tuned teaching practice focusing on quality learning conversations with our young writers.

On Wednesday we are working with a group of experts, mainly from the Ministry of Education, to explore more deeply, the learning and teaching of children with diverse needs.  We have nearly 40 educationalists from other schools and our expert team coming together to talk and plan to maximise the opportunities for these students in our Upper Clutha primary schools.

PB4L SCHOOL-WIDE GOAL

Positive Behaviour For Learning - PB4L

PB4L School-Wide looks at behaviour and learning from a whole-of-school as well as an individual child perspective.  The framework is based on international evidence and is helping New Zealand schools build a culture where positive behaviour and learning is a way of life.

Each fortnight we focus on a school wide goal to encourage positive behaviours.  The current goal is:  'We leave and enter areas in a respectful way'.

SPORT NOTICES

COPSSA Rippa Rugby Tournament

The UnRippables had an awesome COPSSA Tournament last Thursday in Queenstown.  The weather held and the team stepped out and played some awesome Rippa Rugby.  They faced narrow losses, but did not let that phase them.  The UnRippables came out for the last game with as much passion as the first game and took a win by 2 tries -  which they were ecstatic about.  One of the best things to see was The UnRippables team working together and encouraging each other when they were on and off the field.  You guys were amazing!

Thank you to all the parents who came and supported us; it's always great to have you on the sideline.

LIBRARY NEWS

Library Books

Hi there,
I am passionate about getting children addicted to reading.
As you will know your child comes into the library with their class each week and I ask you to get familiar with the day they come in so that they bring their library books, either to return or renew if they haven't finished reading them.

I encourage the children to come in any day (except Friday) at morning tea or lunch to change their books if they do not want to wait until the next class visit. Some children are quick readers and therefore like to stock up before the weekend.
I welcome any parents to come in and see our library at any time. I take pride in a very well resourced library and a school board that values the funding of it.
I am happy to discuss your children's reading needs at anytime.

Aroha ana ahau ki te pānui pukapuka - I love to read books.

Ngā mihi
