SCHOOL NOTICES

Pod 7 Rainbow Market

This term, Pod 7 have focused on advertising and economics as part of their deep learning projects.  Their end goal was to help the school raise money by selling goods at the now cancelled Friday Night Lights.

Pod 7's goods were purchased prior to lockdown and the students would like the opportunity to continue with their projects.  We are now calling our celebration of colour the Pod 7 Rainbow Market  and it will be held during the school day on Thursday 30th September.  Due to Level 2, only students will be able to attend these markets.

Goods for sale include a wide range of toys, lollies and some stationery items.  All items range in price between $1 and $5.  If you are able to send your child to school on that day with a small amount of money to support the market, it would be greatly appreciated.

Pod 7 would like to thank the PTA for ordering the goods and making our market possible.

HEALTH SNIPPETS

Head Lice Are Back

Head lice are (an unwelcome) part of life, and are easily spread between people, particularly children. The key to managing head lice is early detection: look through your child’s hair on a regular basis – nominate a certain night of the week so it becomes routine.

Use your fingers or a head lice comb, and look for little brown insects on the scalp. The eggs are almost invisible before they hatch, so by the time you spot the little white eggs on the hair shaft they are already hatched.

Do not treat your child unless you see live lice.

The best treatment is thorough combing with a head lice comb and lots of conditioner in the hair. This should be done every 2nd day for 10 days.

If you choose to use a head lice shampoo, you should still do the wet combing as described above. Shampoos do not kill eggs, and do not always kill all the live lice.

Do not use animal products on your child’s scalp. They are harmful to humans.

Tying hair up, especially long hair, is beneficial when trying to avoid catching headlice or spreading it.

Take A Kid Fishing Day

Sunday 17th October 2021

The annual “TAKE A KID FISHING” day is coming up again on Sunday 17th October 2021.

This event is organised by the Upper Clutha Angling Club together with Fish and Game Otago.  Venue is a large dam near Cromwell that has recently been stocked with several hundred hungry trout.

This is a fun day that includes supervised fishing, games, a BBQ lunch, competitions and play.  To date we have always been able to catch fish!!

Everything is organised by the Angling Club although assistance with transport would be appreciated.

Parents are welcome to come along and help.  There is no cost involved.  The event is closely supervised and there is a Health and Safety Plan.

This is an event for children up to and including 12 years of age with a minimum age of 7 years.

We will be targeting trout and perch with very experienced fishermen providing guidance.  Please bring sunglasses, sun hat, sun protection, sturdy enclosed footwear and a brightly coloured top to assist in monitoring the children.

Enrolment and Authorization Forms are available here or from the school or by request from the President, Upper Clutha Angling Club by emailing: johnbinney@iinet.net.au

Wanaka Junior Touch

Wanaka Junior Touch will be played in Term 4 2021 on Monday nights at Wanaka Show Grounds (Rugby oval) for Year 5 through to Year 10.

The focus will be on fun, participation, skill development, and learning the game.

Season Start: Monday 18 October 2021 (No games Labour Day 25th October)

Season End: Monday 13 December 2021

Times: Teams will be allocated their time slot (being either 4-5pm or 5-6pm) once registration numbers and teams are finalised.

Teams:  We will allocate players into even teams (so players may get moved during the first weeks if games are lopsided).

Grades: Grades will likely be mixed teams for i) Years 5 & 6 ii) Years 7 & 8 and iii) Years 9 & 10

Playing Uniform: Everyone will be allocated a team and a playing singlet.  If you have a playing singlet from last year please indicate that on the registration form and bring the playing singlet to the first game.   Due to the ordering process there may be a delay in everyone getting their uniforms.  On the first Monday we will check uniform sizes.

No bare feet, spikes, and rugby boots with removable sprigs are allowed.

Registrations will close 3 October 2021 so we can finalise the teams and the draw.  Our aim is to find a team for every junior that is keen to play but we do have limited number of playing fields and capacity for some age groups.

Cost: $40 per child and payment online via Credit Card
