CURRICULUM COMMENT

Upper Clutha Kapahaka Performance

at the Principals Conference last week

Well done to our 23 students who took part in the UC Kapahaka group last Tuesday.  Thanks also to those Year 6 students who missed out on a day at camp to take part in this and to the parents who then transported these students to camp in Dunedin.

Sharing of our Creatives sculptures, installations & art works

Wednesday 20th September 1.30pm

Come along to see the work our children have been doing with artist Chrissy Wickes and our Visual Art lead teacher Kath Nicholson.  We start off in the hall at 1.30pm with performances by the junior (Year 3 &4) and senior (Year 5 & 6) Kapahaka groups, the school band, Sing Squad and some dances from our Year 5 & 6 students.

Kath and Chrissy will talk about the Creatives Project they have worked on with our students over the last 3 terms, and then we will invite you to take a look at each pod's works of art, based on our theme Ko Wai Tatou - who we are.  You are all welcome to come along and join us.

Year 6 Camp

So many of our Year 6 students and camp parents have been telling me how much they enjoyed their camp.  Highlights have been the bird sanctuary, Otago Museum, dissecting a squid and playing spotlight at night before bed.  Thanks to Charlotte, Jennie, Coral, Moira and Dave, our teachers on camp and thanks to the parents who went as camp helpers - what a great bunch you were!  Photos below.

Farewell to Katie Anderson

Teacher Katie Anderson who, just on 3 years ago, taught in Pod 5 with our Year 3 and 4s (she has been on maternity leave, and did some part time work in between babies) was farewelled at a morning tea last week.  Katie taught fulltime for 4 years before starting her family and was a valued member of our staff, a fabulous teacher and much respected by us all.  Katie and her family are relocating and we sadly accepted her resignation.  Best wishes for the future Katie, from us all.

Polyfest in Queenstown

Our senior Kapahaka group are taking part in the Polyfest in Queenstown on Wednesday 18th October, which is week 2 of next term.  Please watch out for an email from Anne this week telling you all about this and our travel arrangements etc.

Orchestra Visit

We have a performance by an orchestra as part of the AWE Festival planned for Thursday 19th October.  We have had this orchestra play for us a few times and they are fabulous.  They tour around performing mainly in schools and we are so lucky to be on their itinerary again.

New Zealand Clean Up Week

This week is Clean Up Week 2023.  To celebrate, on Friday last week, our senior students had a clean up around school and at Kelly's Flat.  They found a large shovel and wheelbarrow in the bushes if anyone is missing them.

Walking School Bus

Wānaka walking school bus is run by a team of dedicated volunteers who ensure primary school children can walk to school safely from dedicated pick up points, getting them to school in the fresh air, keeping cars off the roads and getting them exercised and ready for school each day.

Garden to Table Produce Stand

Look out for our produce stand with fresh produce. Our grateful thanks go to the Wānaka Community Workshop for building the stand.

If you have surplus produce you would like to share, we would love you to add it to the stand.

PB4L SCHOOL-WIDE GOAL

Positive Behaviour For Learning - PB4L

PB4L School-Wide looks at behaviour and learning from a whole-of-school as well as an individual child perspective.  The framework is based on international evidence and is helping New Zealand schools build a culture where positive behaviour and learning is a way of life.

Each fortnight we focus on a school wide goal to encourage positive behaviours.  The current goal is:  'We eat in the right area, keep all areas tidy and pick up rubbish'.
