It has been brought to our attention that some parents may be imbibing, and that worries us when you are driving your children, and perhaps other children down the hill after skiing. And the Thursday ski programme is like any other school activity where children are involved - alcohol is not permitted. Our schools are responsible on these days so it is a major concern for us to hear of this happening. MasterChef New World Promotion If you would like to donate your MasterChef reward stickers to Wānaka Primary School please drop them into the collection box in the office. We would be hugely grateful and this would enable us to replace some of our ageing pots and pans from our Garden to Table kitchen. |

Snow Day Procedure If snow occurs overnight, a decision regarding school closure, or a delayed start, will be made in the morning – we will notify you by the following methods: - Our school website – home page
- Bulk email
- Our School App
If the school closes during the day due to snow, we will notify you via the methods above – please refrain from phoning the office. Buses will not run. Children can be collected and signed out from their classrooms where they will remain under the supervision of a teacher. If you are personally unable to collect your child, then other arrangements should be made for collection.
If a parent wishes to have someone that is recorded as an emergency contact collect their child, the pick up person should go to the classroom, provide identification (if not known to the teacher) and sign the child out.
Now is a good time to consider your emergency contacts – and ensure that the office has recorded the details of at least two people, living locally, who you trust to collect your child if the school closes due to snow. |

Strategic Direction Survey Many thanks to the amazing 129 parents who completed the survey. We were delighted with the response and with the quality and depth of the comments. Parents have indicated they are interested in reading what other parents have said so we will include the actual responses to all of the questions over the next few weeks. The Board will be considering the trends and patterns at their next Board meeting to start working on priorities for the next 2-3 years. Staff and the Board have also completed the survey so along with curriculum requirements and the NELPs (National Education Learning Priorities) we have lots of data on which to base our planning. Please click on the questions below to see the responses. Question 1 - What are your aspirations and goals for your child(ren) whilst they are at Wānaka Primary School? Question 2 - What do you think success at school should look like? Question 3 - What skills, dispositions or values do you want your child(ren) to have when they leave Wānaka Primary School? Getting to School On Time...not too early and not too late! Thanks to parents who have been making a real effort to get children to school no later than 8.55am for the first bell. I have noticed a real improvement from my Drop Off area of the school. Keep up the great work.
Our issues lately have been at the other end of the scale. We have children arriving at 8am. Many staff start arriving around 7.30am until 8am but that is their preparation time. Some staff are not here until 8.15am. The earliest we want children being dropped off is 8.30am (apart from the buses that arrive early) as teachers are either in a meeting, gathering resources from around the school or getting the learning environment set up for the day and therefore may not be in their pods or classrooms to supervise children. If you have an emergency, or it's a one-off and need to drop your child off at school at 8am-ish please talk to classroom teachers first. If you regularly start work or need to drop your children off at around 8am most days, then please make other arrangements. The Umpire Strikes Back Pantomime and Year 6 Graduation A few parents have asked for dates for these events so they can make sure they don't miss them so here they are: - Pantomime Dress rehearsal in front of the school - Tuesday 5th December 1-3pm
- Pantomime Matinee Performance - Wednesday 6th December 1-3pm
- Pantomime Evening Performance - Thursday 7th December 6-8pm
- The Year 6 Graduation Assembly - Wednesday 13th December 1pm
- The last day of school - Friday 15th December 3pm - School Buses will be running
- The students first day back in 2024 - Wednesday 31st January.
Supporting Children with Anxiety Evening We were really disappointed with the turn out for this evening. Less than 50 attended which surprised us as well as the presenters. However there has been great feedback from parents who did attend. We put on these events usually after parents ask for information about different issues and this is one that is huge, not only in Wānaka, but nationally. Arts Soiree (but it's in the afternoon) the launch of our Creatives Projects and other Arts happening at school WHEN: Wednesday 20th September 1.30 - 2.45pm WHERE: Our School Hall WHAT: Come and see our Creatives Project installations, be entertained by our junior and senior kapahaka groups, our senior band, Sing Squad and maybe even a dance or two. Then go on a tour of our grounds to view the wonderful art works all pods have worked on with Chrissy Wickes, in partnership with Kath Nicholson and classroom teachers. Write it in your diaries now. Other Upcoming Events - 28th August - Tribe Afternoon - 1.30 - 3.00pm with a Fathers Day theme
- 29th August - Wānaka Primary School Cross Country
- 1st September - Pod 8 Assembly
