CURRICULUM COMMENT

Parents who could help out 1-1.30pm (lunchtime) with refereeing a game of tackle rugby

We have a group of senior boys (year 5 & 6) who are wanting to play a game of tackle rugby at lunchtime, so we are looking for parents or big brothers/sisters who could act as a referee to keep things safe.  You would be required for half an hour once a week for the next 6 weeks. Please let the office know if you are happy to help out and note your preferred day(s).

Congratulations!

Last term Beth Hamilton, classroom teacher in Room 27 and her partner bought a house in Alexandra, as that is where her partner works.  Beth was also delighted to learn before the holidays that she has a position at Alexandra Primary for 2022.  Beth has resigned from her position here at Wānaka Primary from the end of this year and will take up her position at Alexandra Primary in the new year.  We will miss Beth with her music, Maori, awesome teaching competencies and her caring, warm student and adult relationships and we wish her the best in her new position.  Alexandra Primary are so lucky!

Shake Out

On Thursday morning at 9.30am, along with the rest of our national schools and businesses we are practising our earthquake preparedness with 'Shake Out'.  We have an earthquake, fire evacuation and intruder lockdown drill once a term.

Leadership Course

Next week the leadership team and pod leaders will be in Cromwell on Monday and Tuesday at a seminar entitled 'Learning Culture for Learning Impact'.  We are interested in this as it is about leadership related to improving learning, and that is what we are all about.  It will be interesting to see the connections with the New Pedagogies for Deep Learning and the Positive Behaviour for Learning directions we have moved down and are continually developing.

International Conference for New Pedagogies for Deep Learning

Jennie Croxford and myself have been asked to present at the annual NPDL conference, called a Deep Lab.  We were hoping to get to Ontario or Vancouver to present but for the last 2 years Covid has prevented this, so this year we are presenting live but online...not exactly the same but it is a great achievement to be asked to do this. Last year Anne and Jennie presented live for the national online conference and along with the leadership team I presented also but via a pre-recorded session.  We have many educationalists come into our school to see New Pedagogies for Deep Learning in action either to find out more or to embed it within their schools as we have.

Year 5 Campers had a ball

Both students and parents who attended the year 5 camp have returned buzzing about their experiences on camp.  Despite some cold weather, children and adult helpers got stuck into all of the activities and there were some personal achievements attained as well as great camaraderie.  Thanks to Charlotte for leading the organisation of the camp and to Belinda, Beth and Jason who worked so well together creating a great experience.  A huge thanks to all of the parents who helped at camp, especially our chefs who kept all well fed and Jason now has a bit of a puku.  Without wonderful people like you we could not hold our camps.
SCHOOL NOTICES

Huxley

This is a new entrant to our school.  His mum is Danielle from Room 15.  His name is Huxley and he is also Wānaka Primary School's dog as Danielle is learning to train him as a wellbeing dog who learns to recognise and relate to students with anxiety.  Thanks Danielle for letting us share Huxley.  We are sure he will be a good friend when our students need it.
