It's all go this week...and next! A busy week with 3 nights of Year 4 camp, school photos today, maths PLD, our BoT strategic plan consultation on Wednesday night at 7pm and again on Thursday afternoon at 3.15pm. Children are welcome to play on the pirate ship playground for this 3.15pm meeting which a staff member will supervise. MAC teachers are meeting with our Year 6 teachers on Wednesday to begin the transition to Year 7 process. Next week there are the Year 3 camp sleepover nights at school and the Year 5s are off to Camp Columba in Pukerau. What a lot we will have achieved by the end of week 4. End of Year Reporting to Parents Our end of year reporting has three opportunities for you to be involved in finding out about your child's progress and achievement over the last 2 terms.
You are welcome to talk to teachers at any time about your child's learning and progress either before or after these opportunities. - Parents; Deep Dive: Tuesday 28th November 11-12.30pm or 1.30-3pm or 4-5pm. During this time students will share their workbooks and other evidence such as assessments, work on the walls, digital formats to show their learning, progress and achievement. Prompts will be provided for parents by teachers, and children are well supported and practised in what to share with you before the Deep Dive. As you arrive children leave their class work and join you with their evidence and 'checklist' to make sure they cover everything. The teacher is there should you have any questions about finding information about your child's learning.
- Written Reports: Friday 1st December. The link for these will arrive in your emails.
- Teacher/Parent Conference: If you would like an interview after these two opportunities, or if you need more info or have some questions to ask, please email your child's teacher directly for a meeting time or let the school office know. After reports go out you will have Week 9 and 10 to have this meeting. We also ask that teachers get in touch with any parents with issues or information, before this 3 tiered process, so hopefully there are no real surprises when reports are received.
Class Organisation 2024 We are about to start considering classes for 2024. Organising classes for learning is a huge and complex task, as we consider a variety of information such as student friendships and clashes, student learning styles and teacher's teaching styles. We also endeavour to keep students with the same teacher, if we can for a second year, as this is a big indicator in the research for success for our learners. However this kind of decision is also made on an individual basis as well. If you wish to share any issues or considerations about your child's learning and friendships that you feel may impact on their class placement for 2024, now is the time to let us know - email our team leaders and have a chat with your child's teacher too. For children in Pod 2 and 4, please email jasonc@wanaka.school.nz. Pods 1 and 6 email jenniec@wanaka.school.nz and for Pods 7 and 8 email kerryg@wanaka.school.nz. If you have a request for more than one child, please send just one email and cc in the other team leaders as well. Please send your email in the next 2 weeks before we start the class organisation process. We put a lot of heart, soul, time and deep thinking into this process and always strive to make the best choice, based on our own observations and evidence, for each child for the upcoming new year. POLYFEST in Queenstown Last Wednesday, the 18th of October, 47 students from our amazing senior Kapa Haka group took part in the Central Lakes Polyfest in Queenstown. We were so proud of the way they performed with such passion and mana. They loved performing in front of whānau and other schools and were able to view other groups from this area. Thank you for all your hard work. Pantomime 'StarWarts - The Umpire Strikes Back' We have a fabulous group of Year 5 and 6 students taking part in the panto this year. They have already memorised their lines and now we are starting on the actual acting, stage sets, props, sound effects, backdrops, and costuming ready to wow you with a stunning show again this year. We will be asking, as we have other years, for our actors to come in for 2 mornings in the weekend nearer the time, so we can run through the whole show without a break. We will confirm these days, next week. |
