CURRICULUM COMMENT

Campaign Meeting for Teachers - 21st November

Schools will be closed from 1pm onwards

Just a reminder that school will close at 1pm on Monday 21st November as all the teachers are involved in a campaign meeting.  The year 4 campers will continue with their overnight camp at Bannockburn, but for everyone else the school will be closed at 1pm and remain closed for instruction for the afternoon.  Please could you pick your children up at 1pm as buses will not be running in the afternoon.

Panto Actors

There is a practice this Sunday 20th November 9am-12noon in the school hall and also a practice Monday 21st 1-3pm also in the school hall.  Please could all actors bring along the items they need for the costumes, in a named bag.

Recladding Project Update

The reclad of Pod 2 is well underway and will be completed by the end of term.  The administration block will be reclad over the holidays with Pod 1 and 6 being done in term 1.  At the beginning of next year the Pod 1 team will move into Pod 2 for the year.

Administration Assistant

We are currently advertising for a part time administration assistant to start at the beginning of next year. This information is on the website and the position is being advertised locally in the Messenger and Wānaka Sun.  We have included it below for your information.

Next Week's Events

The Year 6s visit to MAC is planned for Tuesday 22nd November. There is the COPSSA triathlon in Queenstown next Wednesday 23rd November, please see Jason for any queries about this.   We have our TEACHER ONLY DAY on Monday 28th November, where school is closed for instruction.  This is the ONLY Teacher Only Day we have had during the school term this year.

Composite Classes

We will be organising classes next year with composites.  We will have 2 pods of Year 5 and 6 students and 2 pods of Year 3 and 4 students, and possibly a Year 2/3 (to be able to manage smaller class sizes at the Year 1/2 level).  Please see the information below with regard to composites.  Our intention is to keep children with the same teacher and group of children within their pods over 2 years as much as possible.  Following on from our work with Nathan Mikare Wallis a year or so ago and with our own experiences where we have worked with students for more than a year, this promotes a fluid progression with learning relationships between children and teachers already in place, advancing a student's learning over this time.  As with every year sometimes this is not in the best interest of the child or teacher so there will still need to be a lot of thought into class composition and teacher allocation.
