School Donations Over the past 3 years our school roll has been reducing as a result of the new school zones being implemented. Due to this fact, and being deciled a 10 school (10 = affluent, 1 = not as affluent) we get very little assistance from the Ministry of Education ('MOE') to assist in operating the school. Decile 10 schools rely heavily on donations from parents to assist the school fund extra-curricular opportunities for your children. The Board of Trustees are incredibly grateful to the 48% of parents ($43,605 of a potential $89,700 as at the 23rd of November) who have paid a donation to date – Thank you. Unfortunately though, based on the level of donations received this year, we need to consider removing extra-curricular activities like the ones listed below: Specialist music (e.g. band, instrumental) Arts extension programmes All second languages (e.g. Spanish, Mandarin) Specialist Maori tutor and Kapa Haka programmes Extra assistance for children in specific programmes (Extension programmes, Boys and Girls Clubs etc) Excursions outside of the classroom to learn about our history and the environment Specialised equipment for the classrooms (computer equipment e.g. headphones) School shows (e.g. Pantomimes) The Board of Trustees is working tirelessly to ensure these services continue to be available to our children. However, we will be unable to offer all of them without your assistance. We are acutely aware that not all parents can afford to donate $150 per child per year – but if you are in a position to do so, and can’t recall whether you have paid, we would be grateful if you could check. Please help our kids have a future they deserve! Brendan Hearle Trustee – Wānaka Primary School Board of Trustees |

Congratulations Jennie Croxford Jennie learnt last week that she has been granted a $20,000 scholarship to pursue some study next year with her topic linking our school Ariki Quality Learning Circles with the work we have been engaging in around New Pedagogies for Deep Learning. Well done as these external scholarships are a real achievement to get. Go Jennie! Senior Pantomime and Year 6 Graduation The Board are currently considering Ministry advice about having parents come into school for the pantomime and the Year 6 graduation. I will keep you informed as to whether these events can be made open to parents or live-streamed/videoed instead. CO Orienteering The CO Orienteering event is being held in Queenstown on Thursday 2nd December. Jo, Dave and Jase are transporting 20 students over to this event. Year 6 - Transition Visit to MAC All of our Year 6s will be heading over for their full transition visit to MAC on Monday 6th December in the morning. EOY Reporting on Student Progress and Achievement In accordance with Level 2 restrictions we will not hold our student reporting to parents sessions as planned in Week 8. Instead we will send the student reports home via our Edge portal on Friday 10th December, and invite you to book a parent/teacher interview from now, right up to the end of the school year (15th December) by emailing your child's teacher directly. |

Wānaka Trail Ride Calling All Caterers! (and catery-types) "Helloo… this is your Captain speaking…" Actually, I’m not the Captain. I’m just one of the cabin crew. We in fact have a new Captain, Alix Wilson, who has stepped up to the controls to keep this Wānaka Trail Ride show flying along. Alix takes over from the amazing and talented all-rounder Robyn Miller, who not only was one of the founding members who got the Trail Ride airborne, but has continued to chair it AND run the catering side for the past seven years. A massive thank you goes to Robyn for the innumerable hours she has put in over the years to make it the polished event it is. Alix on the other hand, had NO IDEA about Trail Rides. But she’s one of those muck-in, give-it-a-go kind of people. And organised! Unfortunately for me, she is no caterer. And so here I am, on the lookout for someone to take on the Catering Manager role that Robyn has also vacated. Fortunately for you Catery-types, Robyn has got the key tasks in place, and is available up until the day to answer any queries. And fortunately again, Alix has a GSOH and don’t arf love a good larf, innit. (Not that she’s from the East End, but she is British. British = GSOH. Better than mine at any rate. I’m from Feilding). The Catering Tent is where it all happens at the Base Paddock – it’s the place where great WTR burgers and butties can be found, and where the wonderful sense of community happens. Come join us. For more info on the Catering Manager role, please get in contact ASAP. Can’t wait to hear from you. Cheers and thanks, Rachel Allibone and the WTR Team 😊 rachel@wanakatrailride.org Tel: 021 1029 130 www.wanakatrailride.org Photo: Clair Winslade enjoying her Catering 2IC role.
