Course Description

  • How did a young rebel who seemed doomed to fail become the world's most famous scientist?
  • What do his theories really mean?
  • How do his discoveries impact our lives?

This course provides an entertaining introduction to Einstein for everyone, even those who fear physics or are allergic to math.

All sessions are recorded.

Key Concepts in this Course

  1. The most important ideas of science can be expressed in plain English.
  2. Everyone can enjoy the great discoveries and intriguing mysteries of our universe, even those who fear physics and are allergic to math.
  3. Everything we see around us is made of atoms.
  4. Atoms are made of electrons orbiting a nucleus of protons & neutrons.
  5. E = m c2 means matter is a condensed form of energy, lots of it.
  6. Stars create the atoms of life — we are made of stardust.
  7. Particles and waves seem very different, but everything is really both.
  8. Atoms are timeless, but some types decay allowing us to date the past.
  9. Different observers measure different values for some quantities, like time and distance, but everyone observes the same laws of nature.
  10. Light is both a wave and a particle (photon) always moving at speed c.
  11. Free-falling objects feel no gravity; locally, gravity is just acceleration.
  12. All forms of energy curve spacetime; curved spacetime bends the paths of light and all other particles — this is what we call “gravity”.
  13. Black holes are the remains of massive stars that died and collapsed.

Einstein’s Greatest Discoveries

  1. Solution of Brownian Motion: proving that Atoms do exist.
  2. Solution of Photoelectric Effect: Light is both Particle & Wave
  3. Mass is a form of Energy: E = m c2
  4. Special Relativity: speed of Light is constant
  5. General Relativity: gravity is motion through curved spacetime
  6. Theory of Lasers
