RECALL WINDS DOWN: Wednesday is the deadline for organizers to submit petition signatures for a referendum to recall New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell. They’ll need, at most, 49,976. Once they file the forms, here’s what happens next.

GOLDEN YEAR: The Krewe of Argus marks its golden anniversary on Mardi Gras, 50 years after a group of business people founded the organization to bring a Fat Tuesday parade to Metairie.

MEET THE MONARCHS: Perhaps surprisingly, the 2023 Rex is a native of Costa Rica, an academic who moved to New Orleans less than a quarter century ago and who has no Carnival lineage. The queen, however, is an equestrian, a University of Virginia student and the third member of her family to serve in the royal court.
