Exciting news was making headlines on this day in 1984 with a possible sighting of the presumed extinct Tasmanian Tiger. The animal was spotted by a ranger from the State National Parks and Wildlife Service. Chief wildlife officer Rod Pierce said the ranger had been "parked in his car at night doing some other work when he saw it in his spotlight".
