| | | | | De meivakantie staat voor de deur. De populariteit van deze vakantie om eropuit te trekken, neemt steeds verder toe. De reisbranche pleit nu zelfs voor een verlenging van de meivakantie. Naast reizen naar het buitenland blijven veel mensen ook in eigen land. Het wordt deze meivakantie superdruk op de vakantieparken en kampeerlocaties. Deze aflevering van Andere Tijden uit 2003 gaat terug naar de tijd waarin ons land voor het eerst massaal aan het kamperen sloeg: de jaren '50. | | Het aantal dodelijke verkeersongelukken steeg in 2022 in Nederland. Dat maakte het CBS afgelopen week bekend. Vooral onder fietsers was de toename opvallend. Is het tijd voor een helmplicht? Toch zijn de aantallen van nu niets vergeleken bij die uit de jaren '60 en '70. Toen voltrok zich een stille verkeersramp op de Nederlandse wegen. Het dodenaantal liep ieder jaar op met een piek van maar liefst drieduizend verkeersdoden in 1972. De invoering van verkeersmaatregelen als verplichte valhelmen en autogordels om deze stijging tegen te gaan, ging niet zonder slag of stoot. | | Op 24 april houden Nederland, België en andere Europese landen in Oostende de tweede North Sea Summit. Staatshoofden en ministers komen samen om plannen te bespreken over het op grote schaal opwekken van windenergie op zee. Het doel: van de Noordzee de grootste groene energiecentrale van Europa maken. Andere Tijden gaat terug naar de jaren ’70 toen windenergie werd overwogen als alternatieve energiebron. Door de oliecrisis realiseerden we hoe afhankelijk Nederland was geworden van olie en gas als brandstoffen. Een bewuster gebruik van energie was nodig. | | | | | Zondag 23 april - 10.00 uur - NPO Radio 1 Tula, een beeld van de slavernij Het was als eerbetoon bedoeld: het beeld van Tula dat de kunstenares Toos Hagenaars in 1973 maakte. Tijdens haar verblijf op Curaçao maakte ze een standbeeld van de man die de grootste slavenopstand op Curaçao had geleid. Het idee was dat het beeld als monument op het eiland zou komen te staan, maar zo zou het niet gaan. Het beeld werd decennialang bediscussieerd, gewaardeerd, gehaat, en geridiculiseerd door de lokale bevolking. En voorlopig staat het nog altijd in een opslagloods in Oost-Groningen. Journalist Lodewijk Dros zag in de omgang met het beeld een weerspiegeling van ‘de ongemakkelijke Nederlandse omgang met het koloniale verleden,’ en schreef er een boek over: Tula, een beeld van de slavernij. Hij is te gast, samen met Afro-Curaçaoënaar Laurindo Andrea van het Nationaal Archief, een historicus met een specialisatie in de koloniale geschiedenis. | Fotograaf Robert de Hartogh legde vanaf de jaren '70 de eerste Marokkaanse gastarbeiders vast op beeld. Hij fotografeerde hen in Goudse fabrieken en pensions maar ook bij de gezinnen thuis. Fotograaf Khalid Amakran, zelf zoon van een arbeidsmigrant, maakte een serie nieuw werk met de historische foto’s van De Hartogh als uitgangspunt. Zijn fotoportretten tonen de eerste generatie Marokkaanse Nederlanders, nu als zeventigers en tachtigers, vol trots naast hun kinderen en kleinkinderen. | Een dagboek, verduisteringslamp of een stapel brieven uit de Tweede Wereldoorlog: op veel zolders in Groningen liggen nog voorwerpen of documenten uit de oorlogstijd waar vaak niks mee wordt gedaan. Om deze reden hebben verschillende culturele instellingen in Groningen de Niet Weggooien Tour georganiseerd. Mensen kunnen spullen langsbrengen bij de betrokken musea of meer over hun voorwerpen leren. De tour sluit aan bij de landelijke actie Niet Weggooien, een initiatief van musea en instellingen die zich met de Tweede Wereldoorlog bezighouden. | Bekijk online |
