Israel and Hezbollah agree to cease-fire, Biden announces |
After more than a year of fighting, Israel and Lebanon’s Iran-backed militia Hezbollah have agreed to a U.S.-brokered cease-fire, President Joe Biden announced this afternoon. The agreement takes affect at 4 a.m. local time tomorrow, and is designed to be a “permanent cessation of hostilities,” Biden said in the White House Rose Garden. The president spoke after Israel’s security cabinet voted 10-1 in favor of the deal, according to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office. Israel and Hezbollah have been trading attacks over the Lebanon border since the October 7th Hamas terror attack more than a year ago. The deal does not impact Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza. Israeli attacks have killed more than 3,500 people in Lebanon since the fighting started, according Lebanon’s health ministry. |

Cross-country storm threatens Thanksgiving travel for millions of Americans |
We’re tracking a storm system sweeping across the country from California to Maine just as Thanksgiving travel is expected to break records, with nearly 80 million people hitting the roads and taking to the skies this year. Snow has been blanketing California’s Sierra Mountains and is spreading over the Rockies in Utah and Colorado. Winter Storm Warnings are in effect in these areas, where 1 to 3 feet of snow could fall at the highest elevations. On Wednesday, the snow will mix with rain as the storm moves into the Midwest. The Ohio Valley and the Tennessee Valley will also see rain tomorrow evening. Thanksgiving Day looks to be a washout for the East Coast, as the system delivers heavy rain from the Mid-Atlantic up through the coastal areas of the Northeast including the I-95 corridor. Snow will be possible across interior sections of the Northeast and New England on Thanksgiving Day. Cities that could have weather delays on the roads and in the air on Thursday include Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City, Hartford, Providence and Boston. |
Trump vows new tariffs on Mexico, Canada, and China on Day 1 |
Automaker shares fell today after President-elect Donald Trump vowed to immediately hike tariffs on imports from Mexico, Canada, and China as soon as he gets into office. Trump wrote on social media that he would impose a 25% tariff on products imported from Mexico and Canada, framing it as part of a crackdown on drugs and undocumented immigration. Mexico suggested it would retaliate with tariffs of its own, while Canadian officials said the country places the “highest priority” on border security and said its relationship with the U.S. is “mutually beneficial, particularly for American workers.” Trump also wrote that he would seek a 10% tariff on goods from China, accusing the country of allowing fentanyl to be illegally shipped to the United States. The Chinese Embassy in Washington said in a statement that trade between the U.S. and China was “mutually beneficial in nature,” and argued that “no one will win a trade war or a tariff war.” |
Biden proposes weight loss drug coverage under Medicare and Medicaid |
Millions of seniors and lower income Americans could be eligible for popular weight loss drugs like Ozempic and Zepbound under a new rule proposed by the Biden administration. The proposal would expand access to those drugs for an additional 3.4 million Americans under Medicare, and another 4 million people enrolled in Medicaid. The move sets up a potential clash with the incoming Trump administration, and the president-elect’s pick for secretary of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has been critical of weight loss drugs. |
