Biden says “no one is pushing me out” after report he’s weighing future of 2024 campaign |
President Joe Biden vowed to stay in the 2024 race today after The New York Times reported that he told a key ally he’s weighing the future of his re-election bid after his unsteady debate performance. “No one is pushing me out,” Biden said, during an all-hands call with campaign staffers, according to two sources familiar. “I'm not leaving. I'm in this race to the end and we're going to win,” Biden added, according to the sources. A White House spokesperson called the Times report “absolutely false,” and said the White House was not given enough time to comment. With cracks forming in his support among the party, Biden is set to meet this evening with a group of Democratic governors to try and reassure them about his fitness for office. |
Texas in “cone of uncertainty” as Hurricane Beryl closes in on Jamaica |
The chances of Hurricane Beryl impacting the U.S. are rising, as the Category 4 storm speeds toward Jamaica, and the death toll rises to seven in the Caribbean and South America. Once Beryl emerges into the Gulf of Mexico, some models now show it making a more northerly turn toward the Texas coast, where emergency officials are warning residents to be prepared this Fourth of July weekend. Right now, Beryl remains a major Category 4 storm located about 45 miles south of Kingston, Jamaica’s capital, and moving west-northwest at 18 mph with maximum sustained winds of 140 miles-per-hour, according to the National Hurricane Center. On current track, the center of Beryl will pass near or over Jamaica during the next several hours, delivering “life-threatening” storm surge and mudslides, the NHC said. Evacuations have been ordered and an island-wide curfew is in effect. After impacting Jamaica, Beryl is expected to pass near or over the Cayman Islands tonight or early Thursday and move over Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula Thursday night or early Friday. Delta flight diverted to JFK Airport after spoiled food served to passengers |
A Delta flight from Detroit to Amsterdam made an emergency landing at New York’s JFK Airport early this morning after passengers were served spoiled food, airline officials said. The flight landed around 4 a.m. ET “after reports that a portion of the Main Cabin in-flight meal service were spoiled,” a Delta spokesperson said in a statement. Passengers told NBC New York the tainted food was chicken. Medical crews met the plane and evaluated 24 people on board, including 10 crew members and 14 passengers, all of whom declined medical attention, Port Authority officials said. The diverted flight comes at the height of summer travel season, with record numbers flying for the Fourth of July holiday. |
Raging wildfire forces thousands to evacuate in California |
More than 28,000 people in Northern California have been ordered to evacuate due to raging wildfire that has already destroyed multiple structures, officials said. At least four structures have been destroyed and 12,000 others are under threat, Cal Fire said. Four firefighters suffered minor injuries battling the inferno, NBC Bay Area reported. |
