Israeli military strikes Hezbollah targets in Lebanon after device explosions |
The Israeli military launched new airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon as the leader of the Iran-backed militant group condemned the recent attacks involving exploding electronic devices as an “act of war” by Israel. Lebanon’s health minister said today at least 37 people, including two children, were killed and nearly 3,000 were injured in the attacks using walkie-talkies and pagers that have raised fears of a widening war in the Middle East. Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah said the unprecedented attacks “crossed all red lines and all laws” and vowed that “retribution will come.” Israel has not publicly taken responsibility for the device explosions. Israel also announced today that two soldiers had been killed near the border with Lebanon, a day after Israel's defense minister signaled a “new phase” in the war effort focused on the northern front. |

Alaska man charged with threatening to kill six Supreme Court justices |
An Alaska man has been arrested for allegedly threatening to torture and kill six U.S. Supreme Court justices and some of their family members in retaliation for decisions he disagreed with, the Justice Department said. Panos Anastasiou, 76, allegedly sent more than 465 messages through the Supreme Court’s public communications portal, many of them “violent, racist and homophobic,” according to the DOJ. Anastasiou is charged with nine counts of making threats against a federal judge and 13 counts of making threats in interstate commerce. He has pleaded not guilty, and his lawyer declined to comment. The six justices threatened were not named in the indictment. The court is split with a 6-3 conservative majority, and some of the graphic references in the messages suggest that one of the justices Anastasiou allegedly threatened is Clarence Thomas. |
Harris to campaign with Oprah, Trump to speak to Jewish voters |
With the latest polls showing an extremely tight race for the White House, Vice President Kamala Harris will head to battleground Michigan today where she’ll be joined by Oprah Winfrey, while former President Donald Trump will make his pitch to Jewish voters. Harris and Winfrey are teaming up for a live streaming event in Detroit this evening that organizers say will spotlight the dozens of grassroots groups backing the Democratic nominee. Trump will be in Washington, D.C., this evening, speaking to Jewish voters at an event on fighting antisemitism, and then he will address the Israeli American Council’s national summit. In the past, Trump has said Jewish people who vote for Democrats “hate their religion.” During a rally on Long Island last night, Trump said that “in the next two weeks” he would visit Springfield, Ohio, the city that’s been subjected to false claims pushed by the former president and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance, about Haitian immigrants eating pets. Springfield Mayor Rob Rue, a Republican, said Tuesday that a visit from Trump “would be an extreme strain on our resources.” |
Couple live streaming search for Kentucky highway shooter help find body |
A couple live streaming their search in the Kentucky woods is being credited for helping discover a body believed to be the gunman who opened fire on a highway earlier this month. Fred and Sheila McCoy, who had joined the dayslong manhunt for the suspect, Joseph Couch, ran into two state troopers who were also searching the woods on Wednesday, officials said. “Almost immediately after that interaction between troopers and the McCoys, the troopers and McCoys stumbled upon an unidentified body,” Kentucky State Police Col. Phillip Burnett Jr. said. A $35,000 reward was offered for information leading to Couch’s capture, after police say he shot at cars on Interstate 75 on Sept. 7, and seriously injured five people. |
