Harris to rally in Wisconsin, Obamas set to speak on Night 2 of DNC |
With the Democratic National Convention now underway in Chicago, Vice President Kamala Harris will step away this evening to hold a rally in the neighboring battleground state Wisconsin. Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, will address the crowd this evening at the Fiserv Forum, the same arena where Republicans held their convention last month. Back in Chicago, former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama will address the convention tonight. Second gentleman Doug Emhoff and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker are also scheduled to speak. Last night, President Joe Biden passed the torch to Harris in his keynote address, less than a month after he dropped out of the race and endorsed her — though the programming ran long and Biden’s speech was pushed out of prime time. Outside Chicago’s United Center, thousands have gathered to protest the war in Gaza. Multiple people were arrested Monday after protesters breached a security barrier. The Republican ticket is also in the Midwest today, with former President Donald Trump delivering remarks on crime and safety in Howell, Michigan, while his running mate, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, spoke this afternoon in Kenosha, Wisconsin. |

Two killed, buildings erupt in flames after small plane crashes in Texas |
Two people were killed and multiple structures caught fire after a small plane crashed this morning in Odessa, Texas, authorities said. Witnesses said the plane was struggling to gain altitude after taking off from Odessa-Schlemeyer Field Airport, according to Ector County Sheriff Mike Griffis and a post on the city of Odessa's Facebook page. The plane clipped power lines and then crashed “mostly in the alleyway,” Griffis said at a news conference. The crash caused nearby shop buildings and some mobile homes to erupt in flames. |
Israeli military recovers the bodies of 6 hostages from Gaza |
The Israeli military said it has recovered the bodies of six hostages who were kidnapped and taken into Gaza during the Oct. 7 Hamas terror attacks. The Israel Defense Forces released video of the mission and said that soldiers had discovered an underground tunnel and “neutralized the blast doors, weapons, explosives and hideouts used by the terrorists.” The operation came after Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Monday that Israel had agreed to a “bridging proposal” for a cease-fire in Gaza, and called on Hamas to do the same. Hamas expressed “astonishment” at the suggestion it was holding up a deal, calling recent comments by Blinken and President Biden “misleading claims” that “do not reflect the true position of the movement.” |

Taylor Swift took a moment during one of her recent London shows on her Eras tour to meet with two survivors who were injured in last month’s stabbing attack on a children’s Swift-themed dance class in the United Kingdom. One of the families posted a TikTok video of Swift meeting with the girls backstage Swift had said she was “in shock” after the July 29 rampage in the small British seaside town of Southport left three children dead. This afternoon, King Charles visited Southport to meet with some of the survivors, as well as police and emergency workers who responded to the attack. |
