Former Trump adviser Peter Navarro indicted for contempt |
---|
|
---|
A federal grand jury has indicted former Trump White House adviser Peter Navarro for contempt of Congress, after he declined to cooperate with the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. |
---|
|
---|
Navarro is charged with two counts of contempt, for failing to appear before the committee, and for refusing to provide documents, after he was issued a subpoena. He made an appearance in court this afternoon in Washington, D.C. |
---|
|
---|
Navarro has written and publicly spoken about his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election. He cited executive privilege for his refusal to testify before the Jan. 6 committee. |
---|
|
---|
Earlier this week, Navarro filed a lawsuit against the committee, arguing the subpoenas should be dismissed. |
---|
|
---|
Navarro has not commented on the charges. |

|
---|
The queen will also miss the Epsom Derby on Saturday, but she is expected to watch it on television at Windsor Castle, a senior Buckingham Palace source said. |

Despite surging inflation and fears of an economic slowdown, employers added 390,000 jobs in May, beating expectations, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. |
---|
|
---|
The unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.6 percent, near a 50-year low. |
---|
|
---|
President Joe Biden touted the jobs numbers as a “sign of a healthy economy,” while acknowledging that rising consumer prices are having a deep impact. |
---|
|
---|
“There’s no denying that high prices, particularly around gasoline and food, are a real problem for people,” Biden said. “But there’s every reason for the American people to feel confident that we’ll meet these challenges.” |
---|
|
---|
The president’s comments came as U.S. gas prices hit another record high $4.76 for a gallon of regular. |
