WEB-FIRST REVIEWS OF BOOKS AND MEDIA
Slowhand: The Life and Music of Eric ClaptonMaya Rodale's Duchess by Design, book one of the "Gilded Age Girls Club" series, is this week's starred fiction selection. "An inspiring look into a time when being a female change agent came at significant personal sacrifice. Some purists might balk at the romance taking a backseat to the history and at the presence of anachronisms (although some are explained through the author’s note). Still, highly recommended." In nonfiction, Philip Norman's Slowhand: The Life and Music of Eric Clapton is this week’s starred title. "Norman’s readable, thorough book will, along with Clapton’s own memoir, be the go-to biography of one of rock’s most influential icons." Nate Powell's Come Again is one of two starred graphic novels this week. "Aficionados of dark fantasy and painterly graphic works will relish this fine concoction of horror and literary nuance." And in e-originals, Christi Barth's "Bad Boys Gone Good" series "gets better with each installment," including this third entry, Got It Bad. "The retelling of the story from each brother's point of view adds depth and provides the chance to revisit characters you fell in love with in the previous books."
