No more school vaccine drives in Louisiana?

with Matthew Albright | Assistant metro editor

Hello! We've got a lot of interesting news happening. Here's a rundown.

No more school vaccine drives?

Long before COVID, schools hosted on-campus events to get students vaccinated for diseases like the flu and whooping cough. Those events took on new urgency when the pandemic hit.

But now some Louisiana legislators want to bar schools from hosting such events. They say they've heard of kids getting vaccinated without parents' approval, and they argue schools should stick to education, not health care.

Many doctors and public health experts, however, say that's a bad idea, because in-school vaccinations play a big role in stopping the spread of disease.

The latest on Will Wade

News broke yesterday that the NCAA has delivered a notice of allegations in the ongoing investigation into LSU basketball coach Will Wade. Our columnist Scott Rabalais explains what that means for the school and for Wade.

We also connected the dots on how the Wade case ties into a legal fight between LSU and an ex-football coach.

Biting the hand that feeds

An Assumption Parish man had just gotten out of jail on a fraud conviction when a re-entry program tried to help him get him back on his feet. It gave him a salary, incentives for staying employed, and help making rent.

How did he respond? By stealing more than $200,000 from the organization, prosecutors say.

Thanks for reading, and have a great day.
